If you hadn’t guessed it, this is what I imagine would happen if a trans-dimensional traveler were to find himself in a comic all of a sudden.
Looking at comics objectively, you see it has some very specific natural laws or rules, just like any language really. And as I was trying to show last week, there’s fun ways of manipulating those rules to create a whole different experience.
So how weird is it that we can just read panels and immerse ourselves in this logic without thinking twice about it? I don’t really remember a point in time where I couldn’t ‘read’ the pictures in a comic but I must have learned it somewhere along the way growing up. That made think that there probably are people in our society that really don’t know how to read a comic. I think someone mentioned this in an episode of the ‘Comics are Great’ podcast at some point. Maybe that deserves its own episode.
