If you read the comic ‘Little Gamers’ every once in a while, you may have noticed it’s their 8th year birthday this week. And because Madsen is a lazy bum, they’re running guestcomics all week. Including one by me on Saturday.
So, you know, read ‘Little Gamers’ this Saturday and come back here to tell me what you think of the comic.
Don’t worry, I’ll remind you all of it on Saturday as well.
On another note, I’m reading ‘How to make webcomics’, by the guys from Halfpixel (that being the guys behind PVP, Sheldon, Evil Inc. and Starslipcrisis). Despite its 195 pages, it reads fast. Mostly because the type is large and there’s lot’s of strips & examples inbetween text.
The layout is a little chaotic though. Lots of extra blocks with tips and explanations crossing the normal flow of the chapters. It throws me off sometimes and I lose focus off what I’m actually reading.
But forgetting that, I’m halfway through and I find it quite an interesting book. They cover the ‘making of’ from tips on character-development, through writing, to getting it online and building your audience. I haven’t gotten to the branding and monetizing part yet, but it looks promising.
Like they say in the introduction: most of this is common sense and so you’ll pick up the bits you hadn’t thought of before and throw away the rest. These guys speak from experience so you (me?) will have a headstart and know what you’re getting into. that’s probably the best way to view it, not as a step-by-step manual but as a guide. With that in mind, it’s an interesting read for anyone interested in webcomics and setting up an online business with creative work in mind.
Cheers all.
